Family Therapy in Sparks, NV
When one person is struggling, the whole family feels it. Zephyr helps families understand what is happening, change the patterns that keep everyone stuck, and practice better ways of responding together.
When home has become the hardest place to talk
You may be looking for family counseling because your child is anxious, angry, withdrawn, or having trouble at school. Maybe every conversation turns into an argument. Maybe the adults disagree about how to respond, or the whole family is carrying the weight of a transition, loss, trauma, or relationship rupture.
Good family therapy does not begin by deciding who is the problem.
It begins by looking at what happens between people: the roles everyone has fallen into, what sets the cycle in motion, and what each person does next. Once the pattern becomes visible, the family has something concrete to change.
We do not do “fix my kid.” We work with your family.
A child is not a broken object to drop off at a therapist’s office and pick up later expecting full repair. Children and teens live inside a family system. What happens at home, at school, between caregivers, and in the larger world affects how they feel and behave.
That does not mean parents are to blame. It means parents and caregivers have influence, and influence is useful. As the parents are the executives of the home, as go the parents, so goes the rest of the family. Depending on the situation, your clinician may ask one or more caregivers to attend regularly, practice new responses between appointments, or work on patterns that unintentionally keep the problem going.
Your child may still have individual time with the therapist. Parent involvement is not about controlling that conversation or receiving a report of every word. It is about giving the family better tools for the six days and twenty-three hours each week when the therapist is not in the room.
Family therapy may help when you are dealing with…
Frequent parent-child conflict or escalating arguments
A child or teen who is anxious, depressed, angry, or withdrawing
School avoidance, changing behavior, or a sudden drop in functioning
Communication that keeps breaking down
Stress following separation, remarriage, relocation, grief, or another major change
Different parenting approaches that leave everyone confused
Sibling conflict, shifting family roles, or strained relationships
A problem that individual efforts have not been able to change
This list is a starting point, not a diagnosis. The first appointment is where the clinician begins learning what is happening and whether family therapy is the right fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Children and teens need enough privacy to speak honestly. Parents and legal guardians also need enough information to support treatment and respond to safety concerns.
Your clinician will explain those boundaries before the work gets underway, including what may be shared, what generally remains private, and the limited situations in which safety or the law requires disclosure. When possible, the clinician will discuss important information with the child before bringing it to a caregiver.
-
Not always. Families are complicated, schedules are real, and sometimes a caregiver is unwilling or unable to take part. Start with the people who are available. Your clinician will tell you honestly what participation would make treatment more useful and what can still be accomplished with the family members who attend.
-
No. The right combination depends on the concern, the goals, and what the clinician needs to understand or practice with you that day.
-
Yes, when individual time supports the treatment plan. Family involvement and private conversation can both matter. Your clinician will explain how the two work together.
-
There is no honest universal answer. The clinician should be able to explain what you are working toward, why another appointment is recommended, and when it makes sense to reduce frequency or finish.
-
Yes. Zephyr Wellness’ office is in Sparks and serves families from both Reno and Sparks. Telehealth is available for anyone located in Nevada.
