Telehealth Services

In keeping with our mission to serve our community, state, and nation, in 2020 Zephyr Wellness was proud to have been the region’s first agency to offer HIPAA-compliant Zoom videoconferencing to patients across the state.

Nevada’s industries were hit hard in when state government shuttered many small businesses, spiking anxiety among all demographics, both urban and rural. With that uncertainty came an increased need for mental health services and we could not be prouder to provide distance counseling for our friends and neighbors to, in the spirit of Yield Theory, meet them where they are.

What is Telehealth, exactly?

Many people have wondered many things about telehealth, including whether or not it is private, secure, and confidential. In a word, yes. All the same, protections afforded to our patients under law and ethics remain in place in the telehealth setting. The largest risk is actually on the patient’s end in making sure that the location they choose is quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions. Usually this is possible, although we understand that for some with busy homes and lives, it may be more challenging. Some have taken to doing sessions in the garage while the kids watch television for an hour, which might seem odd, but it is far better than not receiving mental health care at all.

Some of our patients have expressed concern over the potentially disjointed nature of conversation when counselor and patient are not sitting in the same room. While the energy is certainly not the same as being physically present with another human, the computer screen is an adequate substitute. These days people are even getting married without ever having shaken hands and a multi-billion dollar industry has been built on distance education for people who attain college degrees online. It is different, but studies have shown repeatedly that online counseling is just as effective as therapy in the office, so long as the therapeutic alliance is strong.

We do not bring aboard just anyone off the street who happens to possess a license to practice. Our hiring standards are particularly high, and we prefer to cultivate - through our use of graduate students - well trained clinicians who are elite in their ability to diagnose, treat, and meet their patients with compassion where they are. Professional pride matters at our agency and we do not take lightly the trust bestowed upon us with every session in which we engage.

Many of Zephyr’s clinicians have been with us since our earliest days and they continue to stay with us because of our loyalty to them and their desire to continue contributing to the community. We are constantly reminded that someone, somewhere, is paying good, hard-earned money to receive the services we provide and that motivates us to stay on task, providing high quality, ethically adherent services to all, regardless of presentation.

That integrity transfers across into telehealth and we believe that you, the patient, will understand that with your first session. The caring, nonjudgmental environment Zephyr clinicians are trained to provide will occur regardless of whether you are in the physical office, the virtual office, or walking around the block on a warm spring day.
